This week we had visitors from Sweden, we went with them and some friends that lives in Tavira for a day to Alentejo and the surroundings of Beja to visit some winemakers. We also enjoyed lunch at a traditional restaurant in the center of Beja.
The first stop was programmed at Herdade Monte Novo e Figueirinha that is located close to the airport in Beja, me and Kristina had the pleasure to make a visit here 2 years ago and had a guided tour from Jose Gonsalves that explained everything about the wine they produce and also about their olive oil. At that time we bought some wine and olive oil, the quality and taste is first class and I’m particular fond of the Fonte Mouro Reserva and in my search for more of this wine in shops I have not had the luck to find it, so there for it was good to come back again.
This time Jose took good care of as again, explained the process, opened some wine for us to taste and we could see that he truly finds pleasure in what he is doing and I can just say that the sweet memories from 2 years ago was no exaggeration.
About the wines and olive oils produced at Herdade Monte Novo e Figueirinha you can find more information at their website; http://montenovoefigueirinha.pt.
After this we went for a well deserved lunch at Adega 25 de Abril located in the old part of Beja. Later in the afternoon we also managed a visit to Mingorra for a tour and tasting as well a short stop at Herdade dos Lagos on the way back to Vila Real de Santo Antonio but that I will wright about in the next bloggs.
